About Us
Ottawa Dance Collective (ODC) is a recreational dance company comprised of adults of all ages with a passion for dance. Our members have a range of dance experience and backgrounds, which allows us to learn from one another and work in a variety of dance genres. We are inclusive to committed dancers of all levels who are looking to explore their creativity and enthusiasm for dance and performance. We meet once a week to create, teach, and learn choreographed routines (created by members of the group) in dance styles that include: Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, and Musical Theatre.
History:
ODC was founded in 2005 under the name Ottawa Dance Fusion (ODF). It was established because at that time there were few avenues for adults to dance recreationally and none that allowed for the creative freedom of choreographing their own dances. ODF performed at community events throughout the year (such as Carnival of Cultures, Salsapalooza, and Tulip Festival to name a few) with the goal of raising funds for local charities. In 2015, ODF evolved into ODC, a name that better reflected the artistic direction of the group. As a collective, everyone contributes to the creative direction of the group and all members invest their time and individual talents towards the success of ODC. ODC offers the combination of affordable dance instruction within an inviting and fun environment, the creative freedom of choreographing your own work, the opportunity to perform in our year-end showcase and community events, and has the mission of supporting local charities. Each year, ODC produces a year-end showcase where their new works are presented and guest performers (dancers and musicians) are invited to perform.
